Officers conducted a traffic stop after observing the vehicle's driver, later identified as Olinsser Vera, engage in what appeared to be drug transaction, Guttenberg police said. Officers believed the driver was engaged in criminal activity and requested the Bayonne Police Department's K9 unit, police said.
The narcotics K9 conducted a free air sniff of the vehicle, during which the K-9 indicated to the presence of narcotics within the vehicle, police said. Following a probable cause search of the motor vehicle, officers found eight clear baggies containing a white powdery substance and one larger baggie containing a white powdery substance, believed to be cocaine, police said.
Vera had eight active warrants for his arrest, issued by the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office, Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, North Bergen Municipal Court, West New York Municipal Court, Summit Municipal Court, Middle Township Municipal Court, and the Union City Municipal Court, police said.
He was arrested on active warrants and for possession of a controlled dangerous substance, police said.
